Velma Wilt

Velma Lee (Grove) Wilt, 81, of Westernport passed away on October 7, 2021.

Born July 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Elva (Beckman) Grove. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Wilt; sons, W. Thomas Wilt, Jr. and Timothy Wilt; an infant daughter, and half-brothers, Albert Grove and Bob Grove.

Velma was a 1958 graduate of Bruce High School. She always enjoyed planning her class reunions and luncheons. Velma attended Christ Memorial Baptist Church. She volunteered with the PTA, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts. Velma also volunteered her time with the Westernport Heritage Society and was also a member of the organization. Velma enjoyed many years of showing demonstrations in markets. She would showcase different products, hand out food samples and give out coupons.

Velma’s family was very important to her. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Velma is survived by her children, Mark Wilt of Missouri and Lori Kooken of Frostburg; grandchildren, Donnie Kooken of Bloomington, Kelli Deist and husband, Phil of Frostburg and Jessica Magers of Missouri; and great grandchildren, Kylie, Kamden, Kelson, Malia and Maverick. She is also survived by her siblings, Alma Raines, Dorothy Michaels, Harold Grove and Nina Haggerty and husband, Jim; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Marshall Wilt, Ronnie Wilt, Gary Wilt, Delores Hamilton, Phyllis Buskirk, Patricia Shillingburg and Shirley Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Sunday, October 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, October 11th from 12 to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick High officiating.

Interment will be at Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
