Stanley Skidmore

Stanley Lee Skidmore, 81 of New Georges Creek Road, Frostburg went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2020. We celebrate his life but we acknowledge our human loss. May God search our hearts, that in pain we find comfort, in sorrow/hope, in death/resurrection.

Stanley was the son of the late Albert Dewey and Hazel Elizabeth (Dawson) Skidmore. He married M. Louise Beeman on July 23, 1960. They have had 59 years together.

Mr. Skidmore retired from Westvaco in 2002 after 41 years. Stan was a man with many talents. Trained as an electrician by his father who he assisted from an early age. He was also a skilled carpenter and built two homes in his lifetime. Being the handyman he was, many people have benefited from his services.

Stanley was a member of The Frostburg Nazarene Church for 54 years. He loved to sing and was Song Leader there for many years. Soon after becoming a member he performed his first solo. He sang, “His Eye is on the Sparrow”, hanging onto the pulpit because he was so nervous. He also served as trustee and Sunday School Superintendent intermittingly down through the years.

Stanley sang with our family group, The Country Gospel Singers for 23 years. Then with the Highland Grass for 8 years. Prior to that time as a teenager he sang in the choir of the First Baptist Church in Westernport. It was then he began singing specials and has continued to do so. He has sang at weddings, anniversaries, nursing homes, class reunions, alumni banquets, churches and various other functions.

In addition to his wife, M. Louise Skidmore, he is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Lynne Gray and husband Steve Gray of Hagerstown, and Lisa Ann Skidmore of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Max Dixon and wife, Jewel of Hanover, PA, Amanda and Shane Beeman of Frostburg; two great grandchildren, Gabriel and Theo Beeman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Skidmore is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy, Pat and Francis Skidmore; four sisters, Betty Unger, Mary Ellen Metz, Ethel Broadwater, Genevieve Wood and Delores Broadwater.

I remember a song Stanley used to sing, “I’ve got a Mansion Just over the Hilltop”. He has now moved in. I celebrate his triumph.

Family and friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Saturday, May 23rd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A graveside funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating.
