Shirley Wilma (Rhodes) Vinci, 86, of Barton, passed away November 7, 2021. Born January 8th, 1935 in Franklin MD. She was the daughter of the late William Rhodes and Ethel (Hamilton) Rhodes. Shirley shared her birth date same year and day with her favorite singer Elvis Presley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond (Super) Vinci. She was also preceded by two stepsisters; Genevive Broadwater and Doris Hott and her two brothers; Harold Rhodes and Lloyd Rhodes. Shirley loved her family very much.

Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Bruce High School and a 1957 graduate of Frostburg State College. She was employed as an Elementary School Teacher for 34 years in Allegany County at Westernport, Central, and George's Creek Elementary Schools where she was also a Team Leader. She also taught for several years in the WV school system as well.

Surviving are her beloved son, Steven Ray Vinci and wife, Debra of LaVale MD; Grandson, Brandon Monahan and wife, Lisa; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Brady Monahan both of LaVale, MD; brothers, William (Sonny) Rhodes, who would always take the time to phone her every day to check up on her and tell her he loved her and his wife, Donna of Keyser, WV, and Edward Rhodes of Barton, MD; numerous nieces and nephews whom she had special relationships with all.

She also leaves behind her faithful dog of 17 years who slept with her every night, Ching- Ching.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading, watching murder mysteries, and cooking her famous holiday and Sunday dinners that were often shared with many of her older friends in the Meadow neighborhood. She had many special cats and dogs as pets over the years.

Shirley loved all animals and rescued many cats and dogs over her lifetime. She could not stand to see an animal neglected due to lack of food, warmth, or medical care. She was a dedicated and well-loved teacher by her students and fellow teachers with whom she had a special bond. Shirley loved spending time at St James Episcopal Church in Westernport and was always available to participate in Church functions in any way. Currently, she held the duty of Sr. Warden for the Church.

Over the last 18 months, Shirley has been under the care of her son, Steven. They had a tremendous love for each other that will last forever. Shirley had so many friends that were all special to her.
