Shirley Smith

Shirley Ann Smith, of Westernport, Md., passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

Shirley, a resident of Maryland Avenue and lifetime resident of Westernport, Md., and also spent over 38 years living at Deep Creek Lake, her most favorite place.  Born, November 22, 1937, (Thanksgiving) at home, on Roosevelt St., the daughter of the late Bertha M. (Riley) Morris and John L. Morris.

Shirley married Kenneth Blaine Smith, Sr., of Luke, Md., on September 25, 1955, and was married for 10 years when he passed away of a heart attack.  Shirley was a 45 year employee of Westvaco Corporation of Luke, Md., until her retirement in 2000.  Shirley was a Catholic daughter for 50 years and held the offices of Treasurer Regent and district deputy, which she loved very much.  Shirley was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Westernport since birth. Shirley attended the former St. Peter’s Elementary school until 8th grade followed by Bruce High School, where she graduated in 1955.

Shirley is survived by her children, Kenneth B. Smith, Jr. and fiancé, Ms. Amber Augustine, residents of Deep Creek Lake, Md., and Ms. Kimberly Ann (Smith) Beattie, of Greensburg, Pa.  Her most beloved granddaughters, Mrs. Jordan (Beattie) Komarny and husband, Jacob Komarny, of Latrobe, Pa., Mikenna (Beattie) McCombs and husband, Evan McCombs, of Culpeper, Va., and Miss Paige Smith, of Deep Creek, Md.  Shirley is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Joan Nofsinger of Tarboro, N.C. (formerly of Keyser, WV.) and deceased husband, Robert (Bobbie) Nofsinger.  And, a deceased brother, John T. Morris, Sr., as well as, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a special niece, Deborah to whom Shirley (Toy Ann), sends all her love.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Parish-St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Westernport.

Inurnment will be at Philos Cemetery, Westernport following the mass.

The Smith family would like to offer a special appreciation to the staff at Morgantown Health and Rehabilitation for all the extra love and care provided for Miss Shirley.  We know she will surely be missed.
