Sara Janet Hartman, 86, resident of Peace Healthcare at Lions Center and formerly of Rawlings and Westernport passed away on November 23, 2022.

Born on October 10, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Reba (Gerard) Murphy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth “Butsy” Hartman; brother, Edward Murphy; and sister, Kathryn Ream.

Sara attended and graduated from St. Peter’s School, Westernport. She continued to be a choir member for many years, as well as a lifelong member of the church and alumni. She had a great knowledge of the Catholic faith and tradition.

After high school she attended Frostburg State University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in teaching. Sara worked quite a few years at the H&P store but she soon came to find out that her true career calling was banking. She worked for many years as a beloved bank teller in Keyser, WV, where she made many friends throughout the years. She first worked at Farmers and Merchants and then BB&T Bank. Sara was once honored as the Bank Teller of the Year. Even after retirement at the age of 72, she continued to stay in touch with close friends she made.

Sara had a great love for cats and had quite a few throughout her life. She had a collection of cat related items and gifts that were given to her throughout the years.

During her lifetime she enjoyed picnicking, swimming, visiting family, playing cards, reading and shopping at WalMart. Christmas was the most wonderful time of the year and she always made it special with her tree picking adventures and decorating. Her most recent favorite pastimes were talking on the telephone to friends and family, and watching her favorite old time shows.

Sara is survived by her loving daughters, Bridget Wharton and Donna Hartman; son-in-law, Todd Wharton; grandchildren, Corey Wharton, Chrissy Wharton and Cody Wharton and wife Veronica; great grandchildren, Cora Wharton, Mabel Wharton and Travis Wharton; sister, Carol Moore and husband, Bob; brother-in-law, Bruce Ream; and a special cousin Ellen Lee Metz. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Sara’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Peace Healthcare and UPMC Western Maryland for all of their compassionate, kind, loving care and support.
