Obituary

Robert C. “Bob” Weaver passed into eternity on Saturday, June 12 at his home in Springfield, WV. He was the eldest son of Helena and Robert Weaver of Rawlings, MD. Bob was born March 3, 1945, at the home of his grandparents, the late Mary Jane and Charlie McCullough, also of Rawlings. He was also preceded in death by his firstborn son, Robert Gregg Weaver, his brother, John G. Weaver, his niece, Lori Anne Pase, his in-laws, Lucy and Glenn Howell, and his aunt, Minnie Vernall.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dixie (Howell) Weaver, his son and best friend, Lance C. Weaver, and his wife, Tina; his grandson, Cole Christian Weaver. Cole was always his pride and joy from the first time he held him in his arms, it was love at first sight. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Brenda Weaver, Betty Howell, Mame Ward, and husband, Sam; his brother-in-law, Glenn D. Howell, and wife, Gloria. His nephews and nieces, Gary Howell and wife, Kristen, John Weaver and wife, Maria, Nathan Ward and wife, Angela, Jarrott Ward and wife, Sarah, Tonya Tettenburn and husband, Mark, and Amanda Weaver. Great nephews and nieces; Samantha Ward, Victoria Ward, Allie Williams, Derrick Tettenburn and wife, Emily and son, Tanner, David Tettenburn and wife, Jenn and daughter, Nora Quinn. He was also recently blessed with the addition of two step-grandsons, Trenton Steelman and Sean Steelman.

Bob was Business Manager/ Secretary-Treasurer for LIUNA, Local 616 construction trades union for over 28 years. He graduated from the Trade Union Program at Harvard University School of Business at Cambridge, Mass in 1969. He also held offices with the Laborers’ District Council; of Baltimore, The Laborers’ Training Fund in Baltimore & WV, Western Maryland Building & Construction Trades Association, Western Maryland Central Labor Council, Laborers’ Local Union #616 Health & Welfare Fund, and the Laborers’ Pension Fund. His goal was always to help the men and women of his local union achieve better living wages, health, and pension benefits as well as safe working conditions through certified educational and hands-on training programs.

Bob loved to fish and hunt. He instilled this same passion in his son, Lance, and grandson, Cole, as well as any other young person he came in contact with. He also coached his son’s little league baseball and basketball teams. He then coached his grandson in basketball at Calvary Christian School recreational leagues. He loved working with all kids and was a mentor to many. He followed his grandson, Cole’s football career beginning with the Westernport Giants, Keyser Steelers, Keyser HS, and then as a game scholarship player at Shepherd University. His recent wish was to see Cole play one more game at Shepherd this coming fall, which was not to be.  Bob also served with the U.S Army Reserves, 336 MP Unit, Lonaconing, MD, for six years during the Vietnam Conflict. Bob attended the Barton United Methodist Church where he served in several official capacities and attended weekly bible studies.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills, MD, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating.
