Westernport, MD

Robert Orville “Bob” Burns, 68 of Westernport passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at his home.

Born July 6, 1951, in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late Orville and Louvene (Smith) Burns.

Bob worked at Masteller Coal Company from 1970 until he retired in 1991. He worked ten years underground and ten years in the scale house, with one year off in the middle after his mining accident.

Bob had many passions in his life. He loved hound dogs, horses, gardening and especially his family. He enjoyed helping others and teaching others what he knew. He hated being told he couldn’t do something. He often said he may have to do it a different way and slower, but it got done!

Bob was always willing to help someone if they needed help. He was a “go-to” kid in his hometown of Beryl, WV. He could be found helping his Uncle on the farm in Dry Fork, WV, he would also help neighbors there as well. Bob had little down time.

Surviving are his wife of 25 ½ years, Jill Noreen (Brashear) Burns; one daughter, Tricia Burns, Cumberland; one son, Blake (Lori) Burns, Keyser, WV; one step-son, Richard (Melissa Smeltzer) Haines, McCoole; and one daughter-in-law, Natasha Burns, Burlington, WV. Bob is also survived by his nine grandkids Trey Blowe, Baily Sullivan, Hunter Burns, Ashton Burns, Emily Haines, Brady Haines, Ezra Cottrell, Alexander Haines, Cole Ramsey, one on the way; and four great grandkids, Trey Blowe II, Amari Blowe, Dahlia Sullivan, Aaliyah Blowe and one on the way. He is survived by his three sisters, Frances (Bob) Paugh, Piedmont, WV, Della (Paul) Warnick, Keyser, WV, Joan (Steve) Simpkins, Morgantown, WV; and his three brothers, Dennis (Donna) Burns, Keyser, WV, Larry (Karen) Burns, Swanton, and Michael (Mary Lynn) Burns, Burlington, WV. Bob is survived by his mother and father-in-law, Roger and Darlene Brashear and his brother-in-law, Jeff Brashear and family.

As per Bob’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no visitation.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Stoney Run Baptist Church, 23701 Stoney Run Road, Westernport, MD 21562, or towards a foster child program.
