Junior Fazenbaker, Sr.

April 5, 1936 — July 22, 2020

Westernport

Junior Wilson Fazenbaker, Sr. passed from this life July 22, 2020, with his family at his side. While we are heartbroken, we know that he finished his race and heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Born April 5, 1936, he was the son of the late Ernest and Florence Fazenbaker. He is also proceeded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Clara (Braithwaite) Fazenbaker. Every birthday after she passed he would proclaim was one year closer to being with Clara Belle. His sister, Clara Madison, and brothers, Richard, Robert, Thomas, Vernon, Harry, and Donald all proceeded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol McNeil and husband Jeff, and his sons, Junior Fazenbaker, Jr., and wife Sheri, and Kenneth Fazenbaker. In his final weeks, he was comforted and cared for by his kids. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ricky Wilkinson and wife Crystal and their kids Ethan, Levi, and Nikoa; Jenn Porter and husband, Wayne and their kids Peyton, Emilia, Charlie, and Adeline; Jamie Harris and husband Mark, and their kids Maddie and Ryan; Chris Fazenbaker and wife Kateri and their kids Kylie, Kennedy, and Canyon; and Brittany Fazenbaker and her kids Jaxon and Chase; and his brothers, Leroy Fazenbaker and Jack Fazenbaker.

In his life, aside from his callings as a husband, father, and lifelong farmer, he was a coal miner, like his father before him, and retired from Buffalo Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator. He loved working for Buffalo. He adored his church and church family at Christ Memorial Baptist Church and spent his life serving there as a deacon, helping with all outreaches, and taught Sunday school.

He leaves behind a heritage of good and faithful. Of how hard work can be tempered by play. He wove a legacy of hard work into his sons, daughter, and grandchildren. Never one to shirk a hard conversation, he was also the first person to tell someone that they needed to know the Lord. Everything he did in life revolved around God and family. We will forever see him in his “mad mower hat” plowing through a hayfield with the sun shining on his face, or checking on and graining the cows. He’ll be with us in the sunsets of a hard days’ work and the sound of a farm tractor roaring to life. We’ll think of him when we crack a thermos of coffee, or pick up our Bible, or have a Werther’s Original (and then slip one in the collection plate). We all relish in our childhood time spent watching WWF wrestling, driving around for McDonald’s chicken nuggets, and most of all, time spent on the farm.

“God said, "I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bales, yet gentle enough to tame lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a meadowlark. It had to be somebody who'd plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the milk and replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard week's work with a five-mile drive to church. "Somebody who'd bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh and then sigh, and then reply, with smiling eyes, when his son says he wants to spend his life 'doing what dad does.'" so God made a farmer.” ~Paul Harvey

We will thank God until we see His face that He made the farmer that we know as Dad and Pappy. If ever there was a scripture that embodies this giant of a man, its Acts 20:24. “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” Well done, indeed.

A visitation will take place on Friday, July 24, at Christ Memorial Baptist Church from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor High and Pastor Miller officiating. Interment will take place at Philos Cemetery.
