Joy Biggs

January 22, 1937 — November 11, 2022

Keyser, West Virginia

Joy W. Biggs, 85 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 11, 2022. Joy was born in Westernport, MD on January 22, 1937. She was preceded in death by her mother, Clare D. Wilson, her father, Earnest “Pingley” Wilson, and a brother, Bob Hill. She is survived by her husband, Robert M. Biggs, and a son, Christopher M. Biggs and his wife Paula. She was “Grandma” to her twin grandchildren, Kristen Biggs and Tyler Biggs, whom she cherished dearly. She is also survived by a brother, Alan Wilson and his wife Helen of Louisville, KY. She had several nieces and nephews.

Joy was a graduate of Bruce High School and West Virginia University. She was lovingly known as Mrs. Biggs, by all third graders at New Creek Elementary School where she taught for approximately 30 years. She was well known for reading books to her “kids”. She always felt it was important that all children were read to, including her grandchildren when they were young. There were always plenty of books and fun games at Grandma’s house. Joy also loved her geraniums. Every year she planted red geraniums in front of her house and tended to them well into the fall season. Her geraniums were always so beautiful. After retiring from teaching and enjoying her grandchildren growing up next door, Joy was a volunteer at Potomac Valley Hospital. She loved helping others and being part of the volunteer group.

Joy will be greatly missed by all, but especially by her husband, son, and grandchildren. She loved the holidays and could always be counted on for providing delicious pies, rolls, and her special deviled eggs for any gathering. She was a very caring, thoughtful, witty, and beautiful soul. Everyone who knew her, loved her.

There will be a small family service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Keyser, WV, where Joy was a member for 50+ years. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, 76 North Davis Street, Keyser, WV  26726.

Mrs. Biggs is in the care of Boal Funeral Home, Westernport.
