Jean Marple

December 13, 1945 — July 14, 2021

Westernport

Jean Kathleen (Beeman) Marple, 75, of Bloomington, Maryland went to be with Jesus in the loving arms of her husband, Leon, on July 14, 2021. Her daughter, Tammy, was also a constant loving support since her cancer diagnosis in January 2020.

Jean was born on December 13, 1945, in Beryl, WV. Her parents were the late Charles Richard Beeman and Alice Bridget Kidwell. Jean was the last surviving member of their family. Her siblings were the late Mrs. Beatrice R. Armentrout, Mrs. Colleen N. Fazenbaker, Mrs. Rose Mary Brown, Mrs. Alice Smith, and Mr. Charles Michael Beeman. She is survived by her husband Melvin Leon Marple and only daughter, Tambrala “Tammy” Marple.

She was survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Franklin (Rick) Brown was more like a son to Jean. Him and his wife, Tammey, were always eager to help with whatever needed done, including driving to Baltimore for various appointments. Mrs. Kim Wood and John, and Mr. Charles Smith and Brooke have also remained close to Jean throughput the years. Her nephews, Mr. Greg Fazenbaker and Mr. Billy Smiley and wife, Tonya, made various telephone calls and visits to see if Jean needed anything. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joy Feaster and Mrs. Maxine Shugars; and a brother-in-law, Mr. William Smiley.

Jean attended Beryl Elementary School and graduated Piedmont high School in 1963. She was crowned Class night Queen.

She met and married Melvin (Leon) Marple on November 25, 1966 at the Bloomington Methodist Church. They grew up in Beryl, West Virginia and both attended Piedmont High School. Some of the teachers would tease them that one day they would get married. Jean responded, “No way.” Jean and Leon always liked discussing they were never quite sure how Leon had time to come out of the woods during hunting season to get married. They lived in a trailer for a few years and eventually built a house on their lot in Bloomington, Maryland. They have made many friends throughout the area. She worked vacation days at the Local 676 Union Hall for the Secretary for many years.

Her love for children also included attending many trainings with her daughter, Tammy. She was the owner of the former Tri-Towns Nursery of Piedmont for many years. Tammy and her loved teaching the children and taking them on field trips. Many of these former students remained close for many years to come. They even sent pictures and Christmas cards to her throughout the years. Many adults and children throughout the Tri-Towns would now bring their children to her home to visit. She always had snacks available for them. Jean had always enjoyed volunteering at Bloomington Elementary School while her daughter attended there. She eventually began substituting there for many years.

Jean, Leon, and Tammy have always shared a special bond together. They enjoyed their many vacations with extended family. Their annual Ocean City vacation was always a favorite. Fun times and many memoires were always made. Jean, Leon, and Tammy enjoyed going for rides, out to eat or just watching movies together. Tammy has always and will continue to call her Mom her best friend. Some of their best times together were conversations together. Tammy will always be thankful and proud to have had Jean as her mother. She instilled many important values in Tammy including the importance of faith and family. During the times when Jean was very weak, Tammy continued to remind her Mother, “God’s got this!”

The family always enjoyed attending Church together and praying together. Jean was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, Maryland.

Jean was always eager to hold many holiday celebrations and family gatherings at her home. She loved spending time with family and friends, she was known as a great cook and baker. Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and dumplings were always a favorite. Her delicious pies were enjoyed by many family and friends.

Jean always enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in Beryl, West Virginia. She held true to her roots and would always say that she could have enjoyed living in an old shack in Beryl, if the community had still existed. She had many good memoires of times spent on the front porch of the Beeman’s house playing records, dancing, talking and eating. There were also many stories of sled riding, and riding bikes with her friend, Loretta, on the handle bars. Loretta Reel has always been a very special friend to Jean. They remained close since playing in the creek together in Beryl, at a very young age. Bev Noonan was very supportive during Jean’s illness. She sent cards, came to visit with gifts and she spent time with the family the day before Jean went into the hospital. Jean and her husband, Leon, have always been the back bone of the annual Beryl Reunion. Each year everyone looked forward to spending the day together and reminiscing about the Good Ole days. There was usually a rendition of the Beryl Girls song during the day. People from various states always attended this function.

One of Jean’s favorite hobbies was her singing. She was known throughout the area for her beautiful voice. She loved putting smiles on the faces of the residents of many nursing homes, at weddings, home fest, parties, and various church events. She always made her audience a part of every event. Jean will always be missed and remembered for her love, compassion, and giving heart. Please continue to keep her memory alive by keeping God, Family and friends close. God needed another angel in his heavenly choir. “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.” Psalm 100. Jean is singing with the angels now!
