Janet Louise (Fitzgerald) Martin, 86, of Westernport went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2021 at Potomac Valley Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Blanche (Lambert) Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years on August 30, 2021, John A. Martin; her fur baby, Annie, who passed away on September 8, 2021; siblings, Linda Fitzgerald, Russell Fitzgerald, Jr and wife, Joann, Robert Fitzgerald, Paul Fitzgerald, Guy Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law, Tina M. Martin; brother-in-law, John F. Meyers; and sister-in-law, Kathy Fitzgerald.

Janet was a faithful member of the Divine Mercy Parish St. Peter Church in Westernport. She was a member of the bereavement committee, was very active in various activities and she and her husband helped to decorate the church for the Christmas holiday.

Janet was a 1953 graduate of Bruce High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad. She was a beautiful singer and was a member of the high school chorus. Janet was very active with her graduating class, she attended many reunions and any other get together with her class. Janet was also active within the Bruce High Alumni Association.

She enjoyed hosting picnics, pool parties and family gatherings for many of the holidays. Janet loved to cook for her family and friends, her freezer was always full of homemade baked goods for any occasion. Janet kept an immaculate home and she took great pride in decorating her home for all of the holidays. Janet was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was loved by many and will be missed by her family and anyone that knew her.

Janet is survived by her three children, Christa Harshbarger and husband, Rick of Keyser, J. Thomas “Tuck” Martin and fiancée, Rhonda of Keyser, Jennifer Clem and husband, Jay of Keyser; grandchildren, Candice Gustafson and husband, John, Brett Harshbarger and wife, Jelesia, Trent Martin; and great grandchildren, Morgan Gustafson and Wesley Harsbarger. She is also survived by her siblings, Norman “Bunk” Fitzgerald and wife, Carolyn, Richard Fitzgerald, Shirley Moore and husband, Bob; sisters-in-law, Mary Fitzgerald, Dora Jean Fitzgerald, and Mary Margaret Meyers; and several much loved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Monday, September 27th from 11:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at the Divine Mercy Parish St. Peter Church, Westernport at 1:00 p.m. with Father Edward Hendricks as celebrant.

Wearing masks and social distancing is strongly encouraged.

Interment will be at St. Peter Cemetery, Westernport.
