Everetta "Retta" Wheeler

Mrs. Everetta “Retta” Louise Wheeler, 75 of New Creek passed away on August 24, 2020 at
WVU Medicine Keyser, West Virginia, She answered the Master’s call to return to her
Heavenly home. Her devotion to her family and strong faith in God provided her with peace in
her last hours.


Born June 7, 1945 in Piedmont, WV, to the late Evers Solomon and Mary Elizabeth Gilmore,
the church Deacon and church Mother respectively at the First Church of God in Christ
(COGIC), Piedmont, WV.


Mrs. Wheeler is preceded in death by her sister, Rose Maria Gilmore and brother, James
Evers “Ebbie” Gilmore, Sr.


At a young age, Mrs. Wheeler gave her life to Christ and developed her ministry of hospitality
and her gift of singing to support the local church. It was at church where She met her
husband, Bishop Henderson Wheeler, Sr.; She sang in the choir and He played the piano.
They would continue to praise God together in church throughout their 56 year marriage.


Mrs. Wheeler used her gifts to serve the church community as well as the community at large.
She was a Certified Nurse Assistant at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV, later choosing
to dedicate her work as a dedicated Homemaker. In the Ministry, She was affectionately and
respectfully known as Mother Wheeler, She served on the COGIC Mother Board, She served
as the COGIC Sunday School Teacher for elementary and middle school students, She used
her gift for outreach ministries directing church plays, She served as an Evangelist Missionary
and was a graduate of the Charles H. Mason Jurisdictional Bible Institute. Mrs. Wheeler also
devoted herself as Lady of First Church of God in Christ, Piedmont, WV and the Greater WV
Jurisdiction COGIC alongside her husband.


Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her loving husband Henderson Wheeler, Sr.; son Henderson L.
and wife Delta A. Wheeler, Jr. of West Virginia; son, Alton W. and wife Lenita D. Wheeler of
California; daughter Cassandra L. Wheeler of Texas; daughter Rachell N. Wheeler of West
Virginia and grandchildren: Imaan Wheeler, Janelle Wheeler, Joshua Wheeler, Benjamin
Gaskins, and Abigail Gaskins as well as a host of nieces and nephews.


Family will receive friends on Friday, September 4th at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport from
5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on September
5th at 11:00am. Burial services will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 11128 Cash
Valley Road, LaVale MD 21502 immediately following the funeral service.


Mrs. Wheeler was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family
and church family. We are comforted in knowing that she loved the Lord and is reunited in
Heaven with her father, mother, brother and sister.


May we be comforted by the words of her beloved song: We cannot see through the future,
through dark clouds or teardrops... let Jesus be your guide, “Walk on by Faith Each Day.”
