William Carpenter

William Leslie Carpenter, 84, of Stoney Run Road, Westernport, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.

Born August 19, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Albert Burrell and Goldie Naomi (Seckman) Carpenter.  He was also preceded in death by an infant son, William L. Carpenter Jr, a sister, Donna Epple, and a brother, Robert Carpenter.

Bill was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War, in which he received a Purple Heart.  He was formerly employed at the Celanese Fibers Corp, before eventually retiring from Keyser Stainless as a store room manager.  He was a member of Stoney Run Baptist Church, Westernport, a member of Barton American Legion #189, and a member of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775.

He leaves behind his wife Norma (Clark) Carpenter, his children, Dennis Carpenter and wife Barbara of Westernport, Mary Ann Symons of Frostburg, Jeff Carpenter and wife Melodie of Burlington, WV, Donna Farris and husband Andy of Westernport, and Julie Liller and husband Mike of Westernport.  He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday, August 8th from 6 to 8 PM.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Stoney Run Baptist Church, Westernport, on Tuesday, August 9th at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Gary Morris officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, with military honors accorded by Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
