William Robert “Bill” Beeman, 88 of Barton passed away peacefully at his home on October 20, 2024.
Born at Westernport on March 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Amel and Cletus (Shrout) Beeman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol Beeman; and sister, Joann “Bunny” Morris.
Bill attended the Barton School until his senior year, where he graduated from Valley in 1954. He was a United States Army Veteran and also the Army Reserves Veteran. He attended Frostburg State University and played goalie for the soccer team. Bill worked at Westvaco and retired after 44 years, having been the 4 and 5 paper machine foreman. He was a member of the Barton American Legion Post #189, the Barton Hose Company for 60 years, and the Drum and Bugle Corps for many years. He played Legion ball for many years. Bill enjoyed working Bingo for the fire department, studying his almanac daily, and yardwork. He was an avid Tom Brady fan. Bill’s true enjoyment was his family and family get togethers. Bill always looked forward to Jason McDonald delivering his lunch daily.
Lovingly known as “Amel”, “Slill” and “Pappy Bill”, he was not just a dad, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was a hero and wise old owl. He always had so much love and compassion for his family. The man had jokes and loved an audience. There are not enough words to express the love his family had for him.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Rhonda DeShong; granddaughters, Jen (fiancé Clif Lough) Stevens and Destiny Creegan; great grandchildren, Ella Stevens, Ava Stevens, Brylee Lough, Anderson Buskirk and Creegan Buskirk; nephews, Tom (Mary Anne) Morris, Jim (Janet) Morris; niece, Lori (Charlie) Laffey; and special cousin and friend, Chas Muir.
Bill’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Chloe Hicks for all of her help to keep her Uncle Bill at home and UPMC Hospice for their kind, compassionate care.
