Virginia Mullan

February 26, 1930 — January 18, 2023

Westernport, Maryland

Virginia Lee (Kirk) Mullan, Westernport, went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2023.

Born February 26, 1930, in Barton, she was the daughter of the late William Russell Kirk, Sr., and Blanche Virginia (Turner) Kirk Warnick.  She was preceded in death by husband James Elton “Duke” Mullan; stepfather John W. Warnick; brother Robert D. Kirk; son-in-law Ersal John “Jack” Shewbridge II.

Virginia graduated from Barton High School in 1948 and attended Catherman’s Business School in 1964. She enjoyed a fellowship with her Lord and Savior and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont. Virginia had been employed at Westvaco’s Luke Mill in the Engineering Department, from which she retired after 27 years of service.

She is survived by daughters, Karen Meyers and husband Richard, and Diane Garrison and husband Walter; and son, Robert Scott Green and wife Debra.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, E.J. Shewbridge III and wife Rebecca, Jim Garrison and wife Misha, Teresa Garrison, and Mark Green; and great granddaughter Naomi Garrison. Additional survivors are sister Carolyn Kay Hobel and husband Dave; brother William R. Kirk Jr. and wife Clara; sister-in-law Darlene Kirk; along with several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Virginia’s wishes, her remains will be cremated and ashes laid to rest next to her husband at Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

A memorial service will be held at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Friday, January 27th at 12:00 noon with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating with a eulogy delivered by a very special friend, Patsy Koontz.  Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

Virginia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  She will always be remembered for her giving spirit, her kindness, and her joyful sense of humor.  She had a positive approach to life and was greatly loved by her family and friends. Virginia will be truly missed, but fond memories will be held close in the hearts of all who knew her.
