Violet Josephine Grove, 88, of McKinley St, Westernport, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 with her family at her side at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Violet earned her wings and ascended to her home in the sky with the ones she loved.

Born February 13, 1928 in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Collier) Ray.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald “Dick” Grove, a son, Glenn Ray, five brothers, Fred Rebar, James, George, Donald and Paul Ray, and five sisters, Margaret Winkler, Helen Bozman, Lillian Lee, Mary Ray and Dorothy Grove.  Violet was the last survivor of her immediate family.

Violet retired from Westvaco Corp., with 35 years of service, having worked in the finishing room.  She enjoyed dancing during her younger years, reading, and spending time with family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed watching the television show, “Dancing with the Stars”.

She leaves behind two daughters, Julie Ann Jacobs and husband Kenneth of Frostburg, Linda Grove and companion Herbie Carnell of Westernport, grandchildren, Kelly Beeman and husband Billy of Frostburg, Heather Roach and husband Steve of Cresaptown, great grandsons, Andrew Beeman and wife Tiffany, Matthew Beeman and girlfriend, Jenna Llewellyn, great granddaughter, Savannah Roach, grandchildren, Glenn Ray Jr., and Barbara Sue Thomas, and a great-great grandson, Grayson, on the way.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Everett Spence officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

The family would like to extend thanks to Frostburg Village Nursing Home, and the staff at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Violet during her stays there, and also a thank you to Dr. Magbojos.
