Vernon H. “Swip” Miller, 70 of Maysville, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
Born October 22, 1946 in Luke, MD, he was the son of the late Vernon Miller and the late Eugenia (VanMeter) Miller. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Miller.
Vernon was a 1965 graduate of Bruce High School. He served in the United States Air Force and the United States Marine Corp. He was an electrician by trade and worked various construction areas. He eventually retired from Southern States Co Op in Petersburg. “Swip” was a member of Petersburg Masonic Lodge #145 AF & AM, a member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, southern jurisdiction, and a member of Osiris Shriners, Wheeling.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Jane (Whisner) Miller, his sons, Jeff and wife Amy of Clearspring, MD, Chris and Crystal of Cumberland, MD, Joel and Jessica of Keyser, Troy at home, his grandchildren, Jeremy, Aaron, Keegan, Kyler and little Pete. He is also survived by a brother, Jimmy and wife Kim of Biloxi, MS, a sister, Bonnie and husband Manuel of Keyser, a step mother, Thelma Miller of Keyser, a step brother, Tom Haines and Lynn of Myrtle Beach, SC, and his aunt, Mary Ann VanMeter of Oak Island, NC.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD, on Sunday, February 12th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The Masonic Lodge #145 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Sunday at 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, February 13th at 10:30 AM, with Lay Servant of U.M.C, Christine Kuhn.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, at Rocky Gap, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 13 Honor Guard.
