Lonaconing, MD
Vernon Ray Haines, 94, formerly of Antique Road, Lonaconing, passed away Saturday October 14, 2017 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, where he had been a resident.
Born September 12, 1923 in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Duncan and Nellie (Llewellyn) Haines. He was also preceded in death by his wife Viola Jean (McIntosh) Haines, and an infant son, Michael Lee Haines.
Vernon attended Central High School. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II. He was a well-known self-employed auto mechanic who also loved and restored several older model cars. He also enjoyed working with his Lionel trains, and was always willing to help anybody in anyway. Vernon was also a member of the George’s Creek Cruisers.
He leaves behind a son, David Haines and wife Patty of Lonaconing, a granddaughter, Lauren Cowan and husband Patrick of Barton and his great grandchildren, Emett Ray and Easton David Cowan.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, on Friday, October 20th from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 6:00 PM at the Boal Chapel with Rev. Sandy Cowan officiating.
Interment will be at a later time at Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center for the care and compassion given to Vernon during his stay there.
