Thomas A. “Artie” Hutchinson, 86, of Rt. 1, Patterson Creek Road, Keyser, formerly of Piedmont, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the home of his daughter, with his family at his side.

Born April 15, 1927 in Luke, MD, he was the son of the late Bernadette Hutchinson Stitzel. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joanna Agnes (Davis) Hutchinson, on December 23, 2013, his grandmother who raised him, Maggie Hutchinson, a brother, James P. Noonan, and a cousin, Peggy Henry.

Mr. Hutchinson attended St. Peters School until he was drafted.  He was a United States Army Veteran from June 1945 to December 1946, having served during World War II in Germany for seven months.  He was retired from Westvaco Corporation in March 1990 with 42 years of service, having been the machine tender on #6 paper machine.  He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, MD, a member of Kelly Mansfield American #52, Piedmont, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  As a young man he played softball, and he bowled in the men’s league, the mill league and the mixed league.

He leaves behind two daughters, Barbara Lepley and husband John of Westernport, MD, Cathy Nestor and husband Greg of Keyser, one son, Thomas A. “Artie” Hutchinson and wife Saprina of Hagerstown, MD, a sister, Annie Lewis and husband Bill of District Heights, MD, seven grandchildren, Amy Smith and husband John, Jason Lepley and wife Salina, Cory Gray and husband Seth, Christy McCoy and husband Andy, Adam Plum and wife Lisa, Michael and Holli Hutchinson, ten great grandchildren, Devin and Kristen Smith, Alexandra and Justin Lepley, Brady and Bryllee Gray, Laci, Taylor and Avery McCoy, and Keidon Hutchinson.  He is also survived by three step grandchildren, Roger Nestor and wife Jessie, Lexi Davis, and Lacy Marsh, and two step great grandchildren, Jasmine Lease and Alec Pulliam.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, MD, on Monday at 11:00 AM, with Father Edward Hendricks as celebrant.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, with military honors accorded at graveside.

The family extends a special thank you to Potomac Valley Hospice, especially Jessica Files and Sheila Fleming for the care and compassion given to “Artie” during his last days.
