Tammie Lou Braithwaite

September 4, 1962 — February 11, 2026

Keyser, West Virginia

On February 11, 2026, a loving wife, mother, haynew, nannie, cousin and friend went to her heavenly home. Tammie Lou Braithwaite was born to the late Robert King and Thelma (Veach) King on September 4, 1962, in Winchester VA. Even up to her last days on this earth, Tammie maintained her kindness, faith, compassion, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her meaningful life that was full of wonderful and varied experiences.

Tammie’s life can best be captured in four words: Family, Friends, Faith and Food. In her 63 years here with us she made sure that she had an abundance of each in every life encounter.

As for her family, she lived in Augusta, WV for most of her childhood life. She was loved by her parents, and many of her aunts and uncles as she used this quality time to spend with each one on a regular basis. All her life, Tammie has been close to her roots and her Veach family as well as her best friend, cousin and sister, Linda Catlett where they were always into something.

Tammie always knew she wanted to someday raise a family of her own. When she was introduced to Dale Braithwaite by a family friend in 1978, she (and Dale) knew she had met the person with whom she would build a family and grow old with. On September 8, 1979, Tammie and Dale started their lifelong journey as husband and wife while they maintained a loving and supportive marriage of almost 46 years. Together they raised two children, Heather Snyder and Luke Braithwaite. As their family grew, Dale, Tammie and their children regularly engaged with their large extended families with Dale’s twelve brothers and sisters and their families as well with the Veach family that made Tammie feel like a sister, and daughter. Then as their children grew two wonderful additions were welcomed as Heather married Thomas Snyder and Luke married Sarah Bryan. Throughout this time, Tammie excelled in creating a beautiful and gracious home which was comfortable for her growing family.

However, the crowning glory for Tammie’s life was the arrival of her grandchildren: Isaac Nathaniel, Ian Walter, Elijah James William, Kayson Robert David and Zoey Claire. Tammie delighted in everything about her new role as a nannie, and haynew (Isaac’s enduring nickname for his grandma) to signify her new role. She made it a point to be as engaged as much as possible with her grandchildren. From babysitting, making their favorite meals, going on shopping trips, from attending birthday parties and school performances to events that they were engaged in, Tammie has always delighted in her grandchildren as much, if not more, than she delighted with raising her children.

Friends: Tammie cherished her friendships, developing them at each stage of her life, with most of these lasting the remainder of her life. At the time of her passing, Tammie still had friendships that she developed as a young child, ranging from her cousins, extended family and then from Keyser. From the neighborhood where she lived in Crestwood, parents of her children's friends and through her association with organizations such as Church ministries, PTA, youth sports and Girl Scouts. Tammie's friendships encompassed all aspects of life, and each was very special to her. From phone call chats to joint family outings, to sharing informal and formal meals and entertainment, to family reunions, to adventures near and far, to helping in times of sadness and difficulty, Tammie was always willing to help where she could. She was known not just for enjoying her friendships but for being a good friend as well. She was the friend who would love to go thrift shopping with you, just as freely as she would join you for lunch. She was known to always be there for you and she was only a phone call to many of her friends that she made through her life especially the special ones including Linda, Mirna, Kathy, Tina, Barb and Norma.

Faith: Tammie had always grown up in a faith-based environment. She would attend church services as a child, also as teenager where she attended a church camp where she met Dale, and as an adult. She was a member of the Emmanuel Church of Keyser for decades with her loving family. Her values on her faith shined throughout her life as she was a good Samaritan to her career as a nurse, her community with being involved in numerous organizations and most importantly in her children where she “tried” to teach them right from wrong and to have a meaningful relationship with her loving God.

Food: If you knew Tammie you knew she was known for being a fantastic cook. She delighted in preparing tasty food to share with her family and friends! Teaching herself to cook via family recipes from numerous generations, Tammie took great pride in making sure to always have something good to eat, whether it was a bag lunch for her children, a family dinner, a family reunion, cookies or cakes for the school fundraiser, or a holiday feast, Tammie could be counted on to cook something amazing and delicious because it was always prepared not only with her amazing talent, but also with boundless love. She was known for her Christmas cookies, homemade noodles (if you know you know), her baked beans and various delicious desserts.

Tammie was a true diamond in the rough, who appreciated all that life gave her. Even in her diminished state near the end of her life, she quickly tried to bounce back into her old healthy self and pushed herself to do the things she loved.
