Shirley Jean Ravenscroft Graft was born on March 9, 1931, in Westernport, Maryland. She graduated from Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia, and was a statistical analyst at American Express for nearly three decades.
Shirley was an avid reader and historian and she loved to travel. She read a murder mystery a day on her kindle, could quote Chaucer and enjoyed poetry. She imparted her historical and genealogical knowledge onto her grandchildren and was a member of the Major William Lauderdale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Plantation, Florida. She loved the smell of Macy’s air, daffodils, and was always wearing the latest shade of red lipstick from Estée Lauder.
Shirley passed away on December 31, 2019, in Sunrise, Florida. She will be missed deeply by everyone who knew her. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as for her sharp wit, love for music and her glamour.
Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Gay, Lynn (David) and Lisa (Gary); numerous grandchildren, Stuart (Ashley), Nick (Amanda), Ross (Amanda), Lauren (Tyler), Brittany (Patrick), Meghan, and Shannon (Terry); and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her son-in-law, Tom Prillaman, and her grandson, Christopher Asseff.
In Shirley's memory, donations may be made to Humane Society of Broward County or Paralyzed Veterans of America.
