Shawn Harbaugh, 65, of Bloomington, MD, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore with his wife and sister by his side, following a valiant fight after developing complications following his second liver transplant.
Born on August 22, 1960 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Thomas Harbaugh and Betty (Kerns) Harbaugh. In addition to his parents, Shawn is preceded in death by three infant brothers, his grandparents, Thomas and Hazel Kerns, and John and Mary Harbaugh.
Mr. Harbaugh graduated from Keyser High School in 1978. He furthered his education at Potomac State College and West Virginia University.
Having a strong work ethic, Shawn began working as a young teenager for Samuel Amorouso. He also worked summers for the Custers on The Island picking corn. In his later teens, he was employed as a cook at the GC Murphy Diner in the Tri-Towns Plaza, as a cook at Visions night club in Burlington, WV, and at Moran’s Liquor Store. After completing his education, Shawn found employment at the Halltown Paperboard Mill in Jefferson County.
Shawn returned home to Western Maryland upon being hired at Westvaco paper mill in Luke, MD, where he was employed for 30 plus years. At the time of his medical retirement, he was employed as a timekeeper.
Shawn was affectionately known to his family as “Shawnboy”, a nickname given to him by his father as a reference to Johnboy in the TV show, The Waltons. He had an easy- going personality, a great sense of humor, and was always ready to share the most recent joke that he had heard. He was always the life of the party at family gatherings. Shawn loved his wife and children and he adored his grandchildren.
Shawn loved listening to music, and he especially enjoyed his Facebook exchanges with friends competing in their music challenge. He liked spending time with his Ice Cream Club buddies, Pat, Tim and Jim, and always looked forward to their outings to the Dairy Barn and Dairy Queen. Shawn especially liked being a part of the Men’s Breakfast Group and attending their monthly breakfasts whenever he was able.
Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Glynna (Harvey) Harbaugh, his son, Brent Harbaugh and wife, Kari, of Lake Mary, FL, his daughter, Brittany Chojar, of Westernport, MD, four grandchildren, Kahlan and Kiya Chojar, of Westernport, and Emma and Ian Harbaugh of Lake Mary, FL. He is also survived by two sisters, Angela Bowers and husband, David, and Michelle Brill and husband, Steve, both of Keyser, three nieces, Lauren Snyder, Ashlie Brill, Hannah Wingler and a nephew, Corey Brill.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home in Westernport, MD on Saturday, May 9, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Visitation will be offered one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10.
The family requests that memorial donations be directed to United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), a nonprofit organization that manages the U.S. organ transplantation system. Donations may be made payable to United Network for Organ sharing, ATTN: UNOS Philanthropy, 700 N 4th Street, Richmond, VA 23219 or to help defray the cost of funeral expenses, gifts may be made directly to Boal Funeral Home, 111 Church Street, Westernport, MD 21562.
