Lonaconing, MD

Sharon Ann (Robertson) Nightengale, 66, of Lonaconing, passed away on January 28, 2016 with her daughter and her sister-in-law Louise by her side.  Sharon was born on June 23, 1949 in Frostburg, MD.  Prior to entering the nursing home in December 2015, Sharon resided for the past few years with her daughter at her daughter’s home where Sharon grew up with her parents.

Sharon was the daughter of the late George Thomas Robertson and Eileen Mae (Hershberger) Robertson; she was an only child.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Robert “Bob” Nightengale, brothers-in-law, Paul Nightingale, Jennings Hott and John Smith and sisters-in-law, Elaine Nightingale, Donnie Nightingale, Shirley Nightingale and Norma Jean Daniels.

Sharon was a 1967 graduate of Valley High School.  She furthered her education and obtained a nursing degree from Allegany College of Maryland and much later a Licensed Nursing Home Administrators License.  Sharon worked for a brief period of time as a Registered Nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, MD.  She found her hearts desire and calling when she became employed at Egle Nursing Home in Lonaconing, MD.  Sharon dedicated over 30 years to the elderly at Egle and made many strong bonds with staff, residents and families.

Sharon loved her family and loved spending time with them. She loved to take her family to the beach and spent a few days during the summer of 2015 with them in Ocean City, MD.  Sharon visited Ocean City every summer for many years.  It brought peace to her soul and took away her worries.  There will be a bench with plaque dedicated to her memory in Ocean City on the Boardwalk during the spring of 2016.  Come sit awhile on her bench, share memories of her and find comfort knowing that she is now at peace.

She is survived by three children, Chris Nightengale and wife Amy, Troy Nightengale and wife Terri, and Trina Nightengale, all of Lonaconing; eight grandchildren, Jesse, Nicole, Courtney, Kirstie, Cody and Connor Nightengale and Bailie and Nathaniel Warnick; great grandchildren Kinsley Nightengale and Jackson McKenzie; brothers-in-law, Woody Nightingale, Jack Nightengale and wife Emma, William “Bill” Nightingale, Danny Nightengale and wife Mille, and Charlie Daniels; sisters-in-law, Louise Hott, and Shirley Smith.  In addition, she is also survived by special Aunts, Joan Hershberger, June James and cousin Rick James, Joan Ropko and husband Fran and their daughter, Cindy Feltner and husband Randy; and a special uncle/brother, Kenny Robertson and wife Helen.

The family would like to thank all who have stopped by to visit, send cards or call her.  She enjoyed your company so much and her smile lit up the room as she talked about you.

A very special thank you to the following:  her “buddy” and partner in crime Bessie Gentry for spending many of Sharon’s last days with her providing comfort and laughs to friends and family.  (Bessie…I thank you from the bottom of my heart, love ya, Trina); Janet Rennie for always taking such great care with her and just stopping in even on your day off; Doris Gillis you are the sister she never had and remained a constant throughout her life; and finally to Marsha and Jim Blair for being that never ending constant support for mom since childhood.  Mom spent a week with Marsha and Jim on Emerald Isle this past summer soaking up the sun and reminiscing.

To the staff at Egle: continue to provide the best care to each one of your residents in memory of our mother. She took time and pride in helping you to become what you are….honor her memory by continuing to provide no less than she would.

There will be no viewing or services and at Sharon’s request, she was cremated.  Boal Funeral Home was entrusted to assist the family with arrangements.
