Ruth Deshong

Westernport, MD

Ruth Kathleen DeShong, 91, of Mill Run Road, Westernport, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing.

Born June 18, 1924 in Piedmont, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harry Calvin and Anna Mary (Casserly) Kidwell.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nelson DeShong Jr., a son, Edward DeShong, two daughters, Sharon Moore and Karen Preston, and a brother, Harry A. “Sonny” Kidwell.

Mrs. DeShong was a homemaker.  She was a member of Mill Grace Brethren Church. She was also an avid reader having read over 1000 books during her lifetime.  Mrs. DeShong always enjoyed a “who dun it”.

She was a loving and faithful wife, mother and grandmother as she leaves behind a son, Gary DeShong and wife Linda of Westernport, thirteen grandchildren, Rhonda DeShong, RoxAnn Martin, Greg Preston, Randy Preston, Shannon Thomas, Sherry Bittinger, Johnnie Preston Jr., Lynn Smith, Leslie Zacot, Stacey Lower, Kelly Shumaker, Samantha Kesner, and Andrew DeShong, twenty eight great grandchildren, and sixteen great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a son-in-law, Johnnie Preston Sr., and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, January 12th from 6 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, January 13th at 1:00 PM, with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating.

Friends will also be received one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Greg Preston, Randy Preston, Johnnie Preston Jr., Andrew DeShong, John Martin, Steve Thomas, Dave Bittinger, and Ernie Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mill Run Grace Brethren Church.
