Russell Eldred Raines, 71, of E. Florida Way, Lonaconing, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at his residence.

Born on July 23, 1942 in Franklin, he was the son of the late Russell Edward Raines and Ruth Ester (Westfall) Raines. He is also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Lillian (Wilt) Sutherland and father-in-law, Theodore Sutherland.

Mr. Raines was a graduate of Bruce High School. He was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Raines was a steel worker, having worked at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore. He was an avid outdoorsman; he was a great fisherman. Mr. Raines was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his hunting and fishing friends and he always thought of them. He will be sadly missed by everyone.

Mr. Raines is survived by his wife, Barbara (Sutherland) Raines; his sons; Jerry Raines and wife Michelle of Rawlings, Robert Raines of Lonaconing; his grandchildren, Jerry Raines Jr. of Rawlings, Jessica Raines of Rawlings, Russell Raines of Rawlings, Tiffany Raines of Rawlings, and his great-grandchildren; Mackenzie Raines and Bryce Raines. He is also survived by his siblings; Robert Raines and wife Elma of Westernport, Jean Alkire and husband “Odie” of Bel-Air, Joyce O’Neal of Westernport, Donnie Raines and wife Linda of Barton and Karen Stafford and husband Bill of Akron, OH. He is also survived by a special nephew Kenny Alkire and wife Kim and also numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  The Barton American Legion Post 189 will conduct a service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 1:00 PM with Gary Martin officiating.
