Aug 17, 1938 — Oct 12, 2026

Westernport, Maryland

Roger N. Fazenbaker, 88, a native and longtime resident of Westernport, Maryland, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born August 17, 1938, in Westernport, Roger was the son of the late Roger W. Fazenbaker and Mildred Grove Fazenbaker. He graduated from Bruce High School in 1956 and, with the determination that characterized much of his life, returned to college as an adult, proudly graduating from Potomac State College in 1978.

Roger served nine years in the United States Air Force, including three and a half years as a radar operator with an airborne early warning crew at Otis Air Force Base. His service reflected his lifelong belief in duty to country and family.

Following his military service, Roger built a 35-year career with Mead/Westvaco, embracing the emerging field of information technology long before computers became commonplace. He retired in 2001 as Supervisor of Data Center and Technical Support.

An accomplished athlete and fierce competitor, Roger was a scratch golfer and past Spring and Fall Club Champion at Polish Pines and Mill Creek Golf Clubs. He made and repaired golf clubs, served on the Board of Directors of Mill Creek Country Club, including as Vice President, and enjoyed countless rounds with the Thursday Seniors at Mill Creek and Charlie's Angels at Oakland Country Club. An equally talented bowler, he once rolled a remarkable 299 game, just one pin shy of perfection. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Roger was committed to his community. He officiated basketball games, including those for students at a local school for the deaf and blind, and was a life member of American Legion Posts 52 in Piedmont and 155 in Westernport. He belonged to Trout Unlimited's Youghiogheny Chapter, the Upper Potomac Rod and Gun Club, and the National Rifle Association. At Trinity United Methodist Church, he served as an usher, trustee, and member of the soup-making group.

On March 12, 1960, Roger married Frances DiPomazio in Gallup, New Mexico, beginning a marriage that spanned more than 66 years. Together they raised their daughter, Cheryl Ann Fazenbaker Anderson. Roger took particular pride in his grandchildren, Sydney and Nick Anderson, whom he described in his own handwritten notes as his "two very special grandchildren."

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; his daughter, Cheryl, and her husband, David Anderson; his grandchildren, Sydney and Nick; his brother, R. David Fazenbaker and wife Kathy of Keyser, West Virginia; his sisters, Rebecca Fazenbaker Kelly of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, and Norma Kay Fazenbaker Dunwody and husband Dave of Culpeper, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Alvin Fazenbaker; and his sister, Susan Elaine Fazenbaker Nelson.

Roger lived his life with purpose, determination, and a belief that anything worth doing was worth doing well. He will be remembered as a proud veteran, an accomplished athlete, a dedicated professional, a loyal friend, and, most importantly, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy lives on not only in what he accomplished, but in the values he passed along and the memories he created with those who loved him.
