Roger L. Brashear, 78, of Westernport passed away peacefully at his home on August 10, 2024.
Born September 3, 1945, he was the son of the late William and Erma (Miller) Brashear. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Wayne, Billie, Paul, David and Donald; and five sisters, Betty Jose, Faye Spencer, Ruth Young, Retha Miller and Gloria Jean Syromi; a son-in-law, Robert Burns; and a special cousin, Tom Marsh.
Roger was a 1964 graduate of Bruce High School. He was the owner/operator of Brashear Coal Mines for 40 years, as well as the owner of W&W McCoole Properties in McCoole. He was the proud recipient of numerous awards from state and federal coal associations. He never knew a stranger, they were just unknown friends.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Darlene (Miller) Brasher; two children, Jill Burns and Jeffrey Brashear, both of Westernport; five grandchildren, Richard Haines of McCoole, Bonnie Brashear-Gardner of Dundalk, Abigail Brashear of Westernport, Benjamin Brashear of Keyser, WV, and Jackson Brashear of Westernport; six great grandchildren, Emily Haines, Jonathan Brady Haines, Ezra Cottrell, Alexander Haines, Westin Haines and Cole Ramsey; one great granddaughter due in September; great-great granddaughter, Emerald; a bonus granddaughter, Destinee Heinrich; and his brother, Timothy Brashear and wife Rosemary of Westernport. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Tricia Burns of Cumberland and Blake Burns and wife, Lori of Keyser, WV; four step-great grandchildren; and seven step great-great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Friday, August 16th from 1 to 3 p.m.
A memorial service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Morris officiating.
Burial will take place at a later time at the Miller Cemetery at Stoney Run.
