Robert Russell “Bob” Taylor, 75, of Westernport, Maryland passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 13, 2015.
Born on September 28, 1939 in Franklin, Maryland, Bob was the son of the late Henry R. Taylor and Georgia M. (Helmick) Taylor. He was also preceded in death by one sister, JoAnna Tichnell, and four brothers, Junior Taylor, Harry Taylor, Floyd Taylor, and John Taylor.
Bob graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1958. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 4 years during the Vietnam Era on the USS Lexington and USS Hancock. He was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retiring in 2000. He was also a member of the Postal Union, where he served as a Shop Steward for several years.
Bob was a devoted and actively involved life member of the American Legion Victory Post 155, Westernport, where he served as Commander for numerous terms. He was elected as an officer for the American Legion Department of Maryland, where he had the honor of serving as Historian. He was also a member of the McCoole VFW #6775. Bob collected model trains and he was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He had a passion for cooking and everyone looked forward to his holiday specialties. Bob enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his loved ones. He was extremely proud of his children and he adored his wife.
Bob is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lois (McKenzie) Taylor. Anyone who knew this couple knew the intense love they had for one another. He is also survived by his children, Robert “Bobby Joe” Taylor, Maysville, WV, Steven L. Taylor and wife Greta, Oakland, MD, and Stacy Metz and husband Chris, Severn, MD; his grandchildren, Keeton Taylor, Kaden Taylor, Shaina Massie, Kaelyn Taylor, Camden Metz, and Chase Metz; and his brother, James “Jim” Taylor and wife Dot, Westernport.
Family and friends will be received at Boal Funeral Home in Westernport on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted by Deacon Harold Bradley at the funeral home on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the service, interment will be at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be grandsons Keeton Taylor and Kaden Taylor, son-in-law Chris Metz, nephews Josh Marsh and Jarad Marsh, and brother-in-law Gene Bender.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
