Robert Lee “Gator” Smith, Sr., 81 of Westernport passed away on September 3, 2022.

Born January 3, 1941, he was the son of the late Harley and Bertha (Lewis) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patty Smith; son, Robert “Bobby” Smith, Jr.; and a brother, Jimmy Christenopher.

Gator was a retired truck driver, having worked for G & S Coal Company. He enjoyed fishing and was a famous story teller. He was a motorhead - loved working on cars, driving them, looking at them and of course talking about them. Gator was always making others smile and laugh. More than anything in this world, Gator loved being Becca and Harley’s “Pap”.

Gator is survived by granddaughter, Becca Smith and boyfriend Trent Bradley and his son, Landen Bradley; and grandson, Harley Smith. He is also survived by his siblings, Frances Moorehead, Ronnie Smith and wife Mary and Joann “Frankie” Duckworth and husband Buck; daughter-in-law, Krista Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other family members and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Gator will be cremated.

Please join us in the celebration of two unforgettable men, Bob “Gator” Smith and Bobby Smith. We know that they would want us to not dwell on the sad, but remember the good. It is with this in mind that we plan to hold this special celebration of life event on October 16th, 2022 from 12:30-3:00pm at the Bloomington Firehall. A brief service will be held at 1pm with a luncheon to follow. Please dress for a gathering of friends as opposed to a funeral, as that’s the way they would have wanted. Feel free to bring along any pictures or memories that you would like to share.
