Robert L. Alkire, 88, of W. Main St, Lonaconing, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born October 21, 1927 in Piedmont, WV, he was the son of the late Edgar Roy and Belle Columbia (Stuby) Alkire. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Alkire, a sister, Betty Jean Patton and brother-in-law, Alex Patton, and a sister-in-law, Peggy Alkire.
Bob was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Westvaco Corp, having been a clerk in the finishing department with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Westernport. He also held memberships in the Lonaconing Lions, Georges Creek Valley AF & AM Lodge #161, the Scottish Rite, the Ali Ghan Shrine, where he was active with the motor corp. and the camper club. He was a member of Tall Cedars Algonquin Forest #140, the Rising Sun Lodge Knights of Pythias Lodge #86, associate member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #40, the Victory Post American Legion #155, and the Martha Washington Chapter #10 Order of Eastern Star. He was a former board member of WEPCO Credit Union, and Lions Manor Nursing Home.
He leaves behind his wife, Marion (Crosser) Alkire, two sons, Mark Alkire and Becky of Cumberland, Steve Alkire and wife Penny of Lonaconing, two daughters, Nancy Yates and husband Danny of Frostburg, Vickie Shockey and husband Steve of Lonaconing, two brothers, William “Odie” Alkire and wife Jean of Cumberland, Charles Alkire of Westernport, a sister, Margie Rosier and husband Dick of Piedmont, WV, and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Kelly and husband Earl of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin, David, Brian, Derek, Bobby, Aaron, Rebecca, and Stephanie, and his great grandchildren, Cody, Jaden, Emmalee, Kylyn, Aalyiah, Olivia, Brenton, and Landon.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 4 PM to 8 PM. Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161 will hold a memorial service on Sunday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Westernport, on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Sally Bartling officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Lonaconing Lions Club or the Ali Ghan Shrine Transportation Fund.
