Richard A. “Pug” Smith, 57, of East Hampshire St, Piedmont, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his residence.

Born December 17, 1958 in Keyser, he was the son of Betty J. (Marple) Smith of Rawlings, MD, and the late Charles Anthony Smith.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Wayne Smith.

Pug was a 1976 graduate of Bruce High School.  He was employed with Southeastern Container, Winchester, VA.  He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan, in which he was a stockholder.

In addition to his mother, Betty, he leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Pam (Hanlin) Smith; a son, Cory Smith and fiancée Shenandoah Green of Greenville, VA; three brothers, Charles “Butch” Smith Jr. and wife Darlene of Westernport, MD, Lester “Jim” Smith of Rawlings, MD, and Gary “Bunky” Smith of Keyser.

At Pug’s request, he was cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD, on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jeannie Thrasher officiating.

Friends and family will be received one hour prior to service on Saturday from 1 PM to 2PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Piedmont Swimming Pool or the Mineral County Humane Society.
