Richard Glenn Shaffer, 88, of Westernport passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Moran Manor Health and Rehab Center.
Born in Westernport on July 15, 1930, he was the son of the late William and Vivian (Watson) Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul W. Shaffer and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Leona Thielen.
Glenn was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, Westernport. He was a 1948 graduate of Bruce High School. Glenn was in the Marine Reserves and Marine Corps from 1947-1952, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Westvaco, where he worked as a refrigeration-winding shop foreman. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge No. 103 A.F & A.M, Westernport and the Ali Ghan Shrine Motor Corps unit. He was also a member of the Queens Point VFW, McCoole, the Westernport American Legion Post #155 and the Westernport Heritage Society.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Nancy (Thielen) Shaffer of Westernport, his sons, Shawn Shaffer and wife, Laura of Sanibel, FL, Blake Shaffer and wife, Pamela of Fort Ashby, WV, and Dennis Shaffer and wife, Donna, a brother, Ron Shaffer and wife Kreugh (Darnley) Shaffer of Tyler, TX. He is also survived by his grandsons, Ryan Shaffer and Scott Shaffer, his step grandson, Brad Sisk. Glenn had many supportive neighbors and great friends, especially Roger and Fran Fazenbaker and Phyllis Boal. Glenn’s family is particularly grateful for the kind and compassionate care from Moran Manor along with a special caregiver, Danielle Smith, as well as Deacon Harold Bradley who was there for both Glenn and Nancy, and his supportive church family for the cards, prayers and thoughtfulness.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Monday March 18th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The Hiram Lodge No. 103 A.F & A.M will honor Glenn Monday evening at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday March 19th at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Scott Llewellyn officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church social hall fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
