Raymond E. “Super” Vinci, 79, of Barton, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Nikep on August 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Phillip and Ethel (Swick) Vinci.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas, Samuel, Daniel, Charles and John Vinci, and his sisters, Louise Colmer and Elsie Humbertson.

Raymond was a United States Naval Veteran.  He was a life-time member of the Barton American Legion #189, and a life-time member of the Midland Sportsman Club.  He retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, and was owner-operator of Supers Auto Sales in Cumberland.  After retirement he was employed at Billy Bender Car Smart in Frostburg.

Raymond “Super” Vinci was a legend in the Georges Creek area.  Everyone on the Creek knew him as “Super”, and boy did he ever live up to the nickname of “Super”.  He was well respected by all who knew him. Raymond enjoyed horse race handicapping, playing cards with his buddies at the patch and watching the Baltimore Orioles.  He also liked painting with oil.  He played baseball in the twilight league where in 1968 he was awarded the best pitcher and league MVP award.  He was avid pigeon shooter winning many matches.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley (Rhodes) Vinci, a son whom he had a special bond with, Steven Vinci and wife Debra, a grandson Brandon and wife Lisa Monahan, great grandchildren, McKenzie and Brady Monahan, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by special friends, Cindy and Harry Youngblood, and James Duncan who assisted with his care, plus many other friends.

The family would like to thank the many caretakers, relatives and friends that cared for Raymond during his illness, especially the nurses and aides of the Western Maryland Hospice.  Also many thanks to Dawn Snyder and Sam Jones of the Western Maryland Heart Clinic.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Monday, April 27th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM.  The Barton American Legion will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 6:00 PM.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Chapel on Tuesday, April 28th at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Garrett Carskadon officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Pallbearers will be Brett Arnone, Randy Whitaker, Billy Bender, Jimmy Duncan, Joe Lewis, and Brandon Monahan.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Femi, Bill Humbertson, Sonny Rhodes, Joe Mullin, and Bob Green.
