Raymond Upperman

Raymond R. “Dick” Upperman, 76, of Bloomington passed away on July 12, 2018.

Born August 7, 1941, he was the son of the late Charles “Benny” and Katherine (Michael) Upperman. He was also preceded in death by his a brother, Charles W. Upperman Jr, and two nephews, Steven Upperman and Scott Riggleman.

Dick retired from Westvaco in 2004 after 40 years of work. He was also a consultant for the paper mill. He was a Mason at the Hiram Lodge No. 103 A.F. & A.M.. He was a Past Master and he loved being a part of the Lodge. Dick was once a member of the Black Hawk Tribe #131, Westernport. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Dick enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He loved being out west and being in the woods, he had a ton of hunting friends. He was a member of the Mt. Top and Folly Run Hunting Clubs. Dick had a true passion and love for dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Upperman; his children, Richard L. Upperman and Missy of Winchester, VA, Donna Martin and fiancé Steven Hammond of Ocean City and Raymond D. Upperman and his wife, Karen of Rawlings. He is also survived by his siblings, Brenda “Bunny” Riggleman of Keyser, WV, Delores “Doddie” Mays of Tennessee and Fred Riggleman and his wife, Karen of West Virginia. Dick leaves behind his grandchildren, Jodie Turley and husband, Dwayne of Delaware, Dave Cavey and fiancée, Heather Morton of Rawlings, Rachel Robinson and husband, Seth of Ocean City, Justin Martin of Ocean City, Brittney Upperman Grogg and husband, Robbie of Wiley Ford, WV, Chuckie Upperman of Rawlings, Jeremy Upperman of Winchester, VA; and his great grandchildren, Emily, Allie, and Fallon Robinson, Max Turley, Maddi and Elayna Martin, Sierra and Nevaeh Friel, Peyton and Bailey Cavey, Raygan, Brynlee and Rory Grogg and several nieces and nephews.

Per Mr. Upperman’s wishes, he was cremated.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm. A masonic service will take place at 6:45 pm on Thursday evening. A memorial service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 20th at 1:00 pm with Pastor Thomas Matthews officiating.
