Ray Joseph Mayhew, 84, formerly of Mill Run, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at Goodwill Retirement Community, Grantsville, where he had been a resident.

Born June 1, 1931 in Franklin, he was the son of the late Larry and Helen (Teets) Mayhew.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Woodie Gay (Paugh) Mayhew, a son, Mark Mayhew, a grandson, Paul Bittinger Jr., a son-in-law, Paul Bittinger Sr., a brother, Junior Mayhew, and four sisters, Juanita O’Haver, Olive Broadwater, Shirley Liller and Beulah “Boogie” Butler.

Ray was a retired coal miner.  He was a member of the Bonnieview Apostolic Chapel, Keyser, WV.  He was a “jack of all trades”, always like to make people laugh, and never met a stranger.  Ray enjoyed the outdoors, hunting ginseng, and playing music, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He leaves behind three sons, Roger Paugh of Cordova, AK, Ray Mayhew and wife Pat of Keyser, WV, Wayne Mayhew and special companion Betty of Barton, two daughters, Rita “Missie” Stevens of Cresaptown, Debbie Bolyard and husband John of Cresaptown, one brother, Gerald Mayhew of Keyser, WV, and three sisters, Judy Gordon of Keyser, WV, Darlene Davis of Keyser, WV, and Helen Palmer of Baltimore.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shoan Gordon, Crystal Moon, Keith Metz, Tawanna Sisler, Jessica Riggs, Brad Bolyard, Lacey Shillingburg, Wayne Mayhew Jr., Latosha Mayhew, Brandon O’Haver, Sarah Mayhew, and Emilee Mayhew, numerous great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special relative and neighbor, Patty Watson and the late Ginseng Watson.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday, January 27th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Bonnieview Apostolic Church, Keyser, WV, on Thursday, January 28th at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Robert Fazzalore and Pastor Daniel Garlitz officiating.

Interment will be at Philos Cemetery, Westernport, at a later date.
