Rachael A. Dayton, 86 of Westernport left this world peacefully on August 2, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones and holding her daughter Becky’s hand until her last breath.
She was born January 12, 1937 to the late Larry and Fannye Audine. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Dayton who passed away in 1972; her loving daughter, Valarie Grogan; son-in-law, Robert “Bo” Grogan; sister Marian Harvey; and brother-in-law, Harry “Red” Harvey.
Rachael’s children and grandchildren were her world. She was always there to support them and cheer them on. After her husband Ralph passed away, she was the biggest rock for her family. She worked and sacrificed to provide them a loving home and upbringing.
She was always involved in her community. She was a Lifetime Association Member of the Potomac Fire Company and a lifetime member of the Petunia Council. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters.
Rachael is survived by her awesome son, Tim Dayton and wife Diana, whom she thought of as her daughter and they were quite ornery together; and her daughter and the baby who moved back to her home to care for her as a promise she made to her Hero and best friend, Becky Donnellan and partner Beth Downey. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Robert “Mark” Grogan and Shawn, Carisa Barbarossa and husband Tony, Tom Grogan, Caleb Donnellan and wife Morgan, Jaden Cheshire and husband Logan, and Jonathan Dayton and wife Addy. Rachael is survived by her eight great-grandchildren, Christian Wiltison, Adrianna Grogan, Nayah Grogan, Alessia Barbarossa, Kaio Grogan, Mason Donnellan, Whitleigh Donnellan, Emberleigh Dayton and Baby Boy Cheshire expected to arrive in October; and one great-great grandson, Hagan. She is also survived by her nephews, Mark Harvey and wife Dianna, Greg Harvey; and two nieces Lisa Dawson, Kelli Morton and husband Chuck; extended family, Bob and Anita Lupton and Linda DeVore; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Rachael’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Deacon Harold Bradley, her caregivers, Kristi Williams and Amy Moorehead and the UPMC Homecare and Hospice staff.
