Peggy Jane Mowbray, age 88, of Barton, MD passed away on December 15, 2020 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center in-Lonaconing.
She was born on July 25, 1932 in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Howard and Violet Harris.
Peggy worked for several years as a manager for Wendy’s Restaurant in LaVale. She was beloved by employees and customers alike. In her younger years, Peggy helped coach the Barton girls’ softball team in the “Sugar and Spice” League and is fondly remembered by many former players. Peggy was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church, the Barton American Legion, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Barton Hose Company. She was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles Baseball team and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Peggy was the life of the party and quickly made friends with everyone she met. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Wayne Mowbray (Lisa); daughter-in-law Carol Mowbray; grandchildren Jason Mowbray (Sara), Sean Mowbray (Natalie), Eric Mowbray, Andrew Mowbray, and Leah Mowbray; step-grandchildren, Rachel Duncan (Jim) and Evan Phelps (Vanessa). She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis Thomas Mowbray, Sr. and her son, Francis Thomas Mowbray, Jr.
The family would like to thank the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center for the excellent care she received. Many of the staff became like family to Peggy.
Due to COVID-19, a private viewing and service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton. A private graveside service and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Barton, weather permitting.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s name to the Egle Activity Fund or the Barton Hose Company.
