Norma Porter

Norma Jean (Winkler) Porter, 81 of Barton, died surrounded by her loving family on September 12, 2021 at UPMC Western Maryland.

She was born on Phoenix Hill, near Westernport on January 17, 1940 to the late James R. and Monnie D. Winkler. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Paton, brother-in-law, Hugh Paton, brother-in-law, Roger Rizer, son-in-law, Randy Russell and a granddaughter, Amber Rose Stewart.

Norma graduated from Bruce High School in 1958. She was married on September 17, 1960 and was a lifelong homemaker.

Mom enjoyed vacationing with family, flea markets, flowers, jewelry, brightly colored sneakers, and her pets over the years, Midge, Baby, Bubba and Bojangles.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, John J. Porter; brother, James W. Winkler (Sheena), sister, Sandra K. Rizer; and her children, Joanna Porter, David Porter (Lori), Bonnie Russell (Paul), and Dena Gurtler (Mike). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Stephanie Winner (Justin), Eric Russell, David Broy, Randi Russell (Gary), Jolisa Stewart, Jonathan George, Emily Gurtler, Carrie Miller (Travis) and Amber Dye (Rob); ten great grandchildren, Abby, Katie, and Parker Logsdon, Macie Kate, Jesup, and Malia Winner, Sutton, Eisley and Ackley Russell and Christian Kiser.

Mom asked that everyone be good to one another and to be saved.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 15th at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home chapel on Thursday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Pallbearers will be Mike Gurtler, Justin Winner, Eric Russell, Gary Logsdon, James Winkler, Jason Winkler and Fred Paton. Honorary pallbearers will be David Broy and Jonathan George.
