With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the death of a beloved mother, Monta Jean Kyle. She died on May 1, 2026 after fighting a courageous battle with endometrial cancer. She is already greatly missed by her loving family. Her memory will remain in our hearts forever.
Monta Jean was born on July 7, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Lester and Bernadine Chaney of Westernport and the daughter-in-law of Charles and Meryl Kyle of Barton. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph “Sonny” Kyle and her daughter Nancy, whom she has now joined in heaven.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and the nurses at the cancer center for their outstanding care and compassion they showed to “Miss Monta.”
Monta is survived by her loving children, Debbie Kyle Hennessey, and Rickie L. Kyle and wife Robin. She is survived by her sister Sandra Morris and husband Gary; and her brother Lester Chaney and wife Kathy. She was the proud Mom-Mom of eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Monta was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was of strong Christian faith. She was the church organist for the Barton Methodist Church for 68 years. She was a homemaker and proud of it. Her family, her church, and her community of friends were her greatest treasures.
She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, where she once served as Worthy Grand Matron. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of The Friendly Helpers class. She helped organize the “Barton Party in the Park”, and was a member of the Barton Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies of the Nile at the Cumberland Ali-Ghan Shrine Club.
Monta’s hobbies included candy making. She made peanut butter bon-bons by the galore! She was a fabulous cook and baker of home goods.
She took the most enjoyment in playing the piano. Sometimes sitting and playing for hours on end. She loved playing the piano and organ at church, as well as the accordion. She also loved line dancing classes and dances for many years with her husband and daughter. Monta was an excellent seamstress. She made the majority of clothes for her children while they were growing up. She enjoyed macramé and ceramics, as well as making crafts of different kinds.
Monta leaves behind a legacy of love and deep family connections. She is profoundly missed.
Family and friends will be received at the Barton United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 20tth from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating.
Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Barton United Methodist Church, Latrobe Street, Barton, MD 21521.
