Mary Margaret (Winkler) Paton, 76, of Westernport, passed peacefully from this life on November 3, 2014, with her children and granddaughter, Carrie by her side at the Egle Nursing Home, where she had been a resident.
Born May 11, 1938 at Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late James R. Winkler.   In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her stepmother Monnie D. (Rosson) Winkler, and a granddaughter, Brittany Marie Paton.
Mary attended Bruce High School, and was a graduate of Allegany College of Md.
She was formerly the Personnel Director at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, and most recently was employed at JoAnn Fabrics, LaVale.  She worked for H & R Block and did taxes for many years.  Mary served as President of the Franklin/Brophytown Water Co. She enjoyed taking classes to learn new things, cake decorating, quilting, sewing, needlework and crafts of all kinds.  One of her proudest achievements was serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons, and as a Webelos leader for her grandson, Derek, mentoring him on his course to become an Eagle Scout.
She was an avid reader, learning computer skills and loved to plant flowers.  She helped her husband with all aspects of home remodeling.  There wasn’t a job that she wouldn’t help with.
Mary leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Hugh F. Paton, daughter Mary Virginia (Gary) Fazenbaker, son, Hugh “Fred” Jr. (Jeana) all of Westernport, and Charles R. (Valerie) Paton of Parkton, Md.  She was proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Ryan Fazenbaker, Joshua (Tina) Fazenbaker, Carrie L. (R.J.) Thierry, Derek Paton, Casey, Charles “Alex” and Christopher Paton.  Three step-grandchildren, Dylan, Jessica and Devin.       6 Great-grandchildren, Tristan, Gwendolyn, Ava, Shayden, Carter and Christina.  She also leaves behind two sisters, Norma J. (John) Porter, Barton, Sandra K. Rizer, Rawlings, a brother, James W. (Sheena) Winkler, Cresaptown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2014.  A service will be held at the Boal Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Gary Fazenbaker officiating.  Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, or Potomac Fire Co. of Westernport.
Mary’s family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Egle Nursing Home in Lonaconing, for the wonderful care they provided for her during the year she resided there.
Mom you will be missed very much and will be loved forever. You will always be remembered for your selflessness and kind heart. Love always, Your Family.
