Mary E. Braithwaite, 86, of West Harrison St, Piedmont, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Piney Valley Nursing Home, Keyser.

Born July 22, 1929 at Whitacre, VA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse R. and Edna M. (Arnold) Whitacre.  Due to the death of her mother shortly after her birth, she was raised by the late Arthur and Bertie (Strother) Whitacre.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesse J. Braithwaite, her beloved granddaughter, Pam Costilow, her sisters, Opal Larrick and Ida Roe and her brothers, John Whitacre and Lester “Jack” Whitacre.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary grew up on a farm and was a graduate of Gainesboro High School.  She and Jesse were married almost 37 years when he passed away on October 2, 1984.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her flower beds, trips to Blackwater Falls and Winchester, VA, working in puzzle books, and watching several pastors on television, especially Joel Olsteen.

She leaves behind her children, Robert Braithwaite and wife Glenda of Bloomington, MD, Delores Bean and husband Tom of Keyser, Roger Braithwaite of Barton, MD, Mary Lou Smith and husband Doug of Keyser, Norman Braithwaite of Barton, MD, Donna Clark of Piedmont, Bonnie Shuck and husband Ed of LaVale, MD, and Steven Braithwaite and wife Lisa of Piedmont.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tammy, Kevin and Karen Bean, Patty Runkles, Greg and Randy Smith, Scott, Jason, and Holly Clark, Justin and Josh Shuck, Sarah Michael, Kristen and Jesse “JJ” Braithwaite and fifteen great grandchildren, and several special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD on Wednesday, October 14th from 12 PM to 3 PM.  A funeral service will follow the visitation on Wednesday at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Randy Leatherman and Pastor Donna Leatherman officiating.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of donor’s choice.
