Mable Grethel Bowers, 96, formerly of Westernport Road, McCoole and most recently of Piney Valley, Keyser died on October 7, 2016 at Potomac Valley Hospital. .

Born January 29, 1920 in Harmon, WV, she was the daughter of the late Branson and Flona (Yokum) Wolford. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ona David Bowers in April 1996; an infant daughter, Peggy Lou; three brothers, Jerry, Gorman and Carroll Wolford and one sister, Ethel Judy.

Mable was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. She worked at the Celanese for a short time during WWII. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of McCoole, now Cornerstone Ministries, for well over 50 years.


She is survived by her three sons, Jack Bowers and wife Thelma, Gary Bowers and wife Lana, all of Fort Ashby, WV, and David “Tinker” Bowers and wife Angela of Keyser, WV; her two daughters, Carolyn Sue Bittinger and husband Donald of Frostburg, and Dixie Zais and husband Woody of Savage. She is also survived her sister, Imogene of Winchester, VA; her two brothers, Eddie Wolford of Ohio and Bill Wolford of Petersburg of WV; her six grandchildren, Donna Sue (Leatherman) Dorsey, Jeff Bowers, Darrell Bowers, Greg Bowers, Paul Bowers and Lauren (Bowers) Snyder; her five step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.


Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday, October 10th from 6 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, October 11th at 11:00 am with the Rev. Walter Lancaster officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, WV.
