Louise Nealis

Pastor Louise Maxine Nealis, 83, of Swanton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.  Born in Westernport on October 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Una Nesmith.

Upon graduating Bruce High School in 1957, she was employed by Westvaco. Becoming a mother of four girls, she became a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, choir director, Bible school teacher and church camp counselor. She was known for being a seamstress, making identical clothes for her four girls as well as prom and wedding gowns, later working for Grantsville sewing factory. Louise enjoyed baking rolls, sweets, birthday and wedding cakes, all featured at family gatherings. Her strong dedication to her faith led her to be a Pastor in the Church of the Brethren for West Marva.  She and Bob pastored Danville Church of the Brethren for 13 years, also substituting as pastors for Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren.  She performed marriage ceremonies for two daughters, two grandchildren and christened a great grandson. She performed missions in India, the Holy Land, and South America. Upon retirement she became a member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren.

A sister, Geraldine Mayles, precedes her in death. Louise is survived by her husband of 61 years Robert G. Nealis; a brother Leo Nesmith Jr & wife Debbie; sister, Sharon Tagliaferre; four daughters: Lisa Mason (Willie), Gina Kocha (Jeff), Gail Lutton (Todd), and Lori Taylor (Alex); six grandchildren: Jaron Lutton (Bailey), Kasandra Spriggs, Samantha Higgins (John), Jacob Taylor (Ashley), Jericho Washington, and Kalyn Lutton; Four grandchildren by marriage: Chris Peoples, Andrew Kocha, Stuart Kocha, and Emily Kocha; six great-grandchildren: Abram Berg, Parker Berg, Caden Lutton, Beau Higgins, Murphy Higgins, and Sadie Jo Taylor. Louise held close to her heart her three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday, January 9th from 3 to 6 p.m.

A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 10th at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m..

Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Westernport Church of the Brethren.
