LeRoy Richard Bland, 76, of Warm Breeze Lane, Rawlings, formerly of Luke, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at his residence.

Born March 8, 1937 in Luke, he was the son of the late Roy and Elsie (Slaughter) Bland.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Don Allen Bland.

Mr. Bland was a 1955 graduate of Bruce High School.  He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War.  He retired from Westvaco Corp., with 42 years of service, having been a winder operator in coater one.  Mr. Bland was a life member of Luke Fire Department, a life member and Past Commander for 3 years of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775, McCoole, and he served as Quartermaster for the State of Maryland District 3 V.F.W. for several years.

He leaves behind his wife, Edith (Fickel) Bland, two daughters, Brenda Bland of Keyser, WV, Elizabeth Patterson and husband Ronnie of Keyser, WV, one sister, Sally Thompson of Magnolia, DE, and three grandchildren, Jimmy Allen, Katrina Allen and Tori Patterson.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday from 6 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Monday at 12:00 PM.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, WV, with full military honors accorded at graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to V.F.W. National Children’s Home, 3573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI  48827.
