Judy Raye Morlen

Judy Raye (Layman) Morlen, 77, of Westernport, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023, at Moran Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Judy was born at the Hazel McGilvery Hospital in Meyersdale, PA on May 19th, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Stella Mae Durst and Leander Thomas Layman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George Layman, her half-sister Nancy Watkins, her half-sister Anna Mae Bittner, and her half-brother Willard Lee Layman; as well as her late ex-husband and father of her daughter, Jimmy Morlen. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister and grandmother as well as friend to all.

Judy was a graduate of Northern High School, in Accident, Maryland, class of 1964. With her love of caring for others, she went on to pursue a lifelong career as a CNA. She worked at both Sacred Heart Hospital and Moran Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was an avid follower of Christ and attended church throughout her life with her family. She was a music lover where she enjoyed playing the piano, singing in and out of the choir, and listening to music. Most of all, she enjoyed time surrounded by family and friends and having a positive impact on her community through kindness to all.

She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Morlen, Asheville, NC; her grandchildren Nicholas Gevedon, Asheville NC and Elizabeth Gevedon, Asheville, NC; and her sister Sarah Howard Layman, Frostburg, MD.

A special thank you to the staff at Moran Nursing and Rehabilitation, who have taken their care of duty above and beyond the expectation to make her end of life experience a peaceful and loving one.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Thursday, December 28th, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will take place following the visitaiton at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Garrett Carskadon officiating.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
