Joseph Gillis

Joseph Gillis, 60, of Barton passed away on January 31, 2023.

Born July 30, 1962, he was the son of the late Edwin and Jacqueline (Helmick) Gillis. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father- in-law, William and Doris Ravenscroft; and a brother-in-law, Jack Frost.

Joe was a devoted and loving husband and father. He enjoyed reading, writing stories and building computers. Joe was passionate about literature and war history. He was a fan of the Washington Capitals hockey team. He worked as a substitute teacher in both Allegany and Mineral counties.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Ravenscroft) Gillis; his children, Caitlin Gillis and partner Dane McClellan and Christian Gillis; sisters, Ann Frost and Debbie Frankenberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Monday, February 6th from 2 to 4:30 p.m. A service will follow the visitation at 4:30 p.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating.
