Joseph Edward “Joe” Determan, 90, formerly of Westernport, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Goodwill Retirement Community, Grantsville, where he had been a resident.

Born November 16, 1924 in Westernport, he was the son of the late John Bernard and Marguerite Ellen (Noon) Determan.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Myra (Bever) Determan, a daughter, Susan J. (Determan) Matlick, his brothers, John, Frank, George, and James Determan, his sisters, Marie Angle and Sister Juliena (Ann) Determan.

Mr. Determan was a 1942 graduate of St. Peters High School.  He was a United States Army Veteran, having been a Corporal serving in the European Theatre during World War II with the 445th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Unit. He retired from Westvaco Corp. in 1987 as an electrical instrument multi-craft foreman in the maintenance department.  Mr. Determan was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #586, Piedmont, WV, and a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport.

He leaves behind his children, Marie Whiteman and husband Ed of Woodbridge, VA, Jayne Barnes and husband David of BelAir, Joe Determan Jr. and wife Martha of East Stroudsburg, PA, Beth Gattens of Hershey, PA, Cindy Nelson and husband Bill of Westernport, and Jeannie Guy and husband Scott of Glen Allen, VA.  He is also survived by his sister, Irene Keller of Rockville, his grandchildren, Angela Roses and husband Rob, Edward “Eddie” Whiteman Jr. and wife Gina, Kelly Sisk, Dave Barnes and wife Chrissy, Joe Determan III, Carly Determan, Erin Hubbard and husband David, Dave Gattens and wife Erin, Brooke Gattens, Matthew Matlick and wife Carrie, Bob Nelson, Katie King and husband Jeremiah, and Molly Nelson and his fourteen great grandchildren, C.J., Lexi, Edward, Jamie, Julie, Ava, Nicholas, Ryleigh, Sawyer, Zachary, Holly, Mylan, Wyatt and Lila.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, with Father Gregory Brown as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Westernport.
