John "Jack" Bean

John Francis “Jack” Bean, Sr., 92 of Barton passed away at his residence on December 23, 2022.

Born July 23, 1930, he was the son of the late Samuel Bean, Sr. and Carrie (Moffatt) Bean. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice “Ginger” (Kenney) Bean; siblings, Samuel Bean, Jr., Martha Sturla, James Bean, Mary Taccino, Sarah Raybuck, Donald Bean; and a grandson, Chris Wigington.

Jack was a 1949 graduate of Barton High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. Catholic by faith, and a member of the Divine Mercy Parish St. Gabriel’s Church, he was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Jack was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member. He was a member of the Barton American Legion Post #189, where he held various officer positions over the years. Jack was the Mayor of the town of Barton for many years.

Jack is survived by his children, Roxanne Wigington and husband, Jay, John Bean, Jr., Gregory Bean and wife, Robin and Brian Bean and wife, Mary. Jack is survived by his sister, Margaret Fram; grandchildren, Jill Brooke, Karle Zembower, Keri Bean, Joey Myers, and Katie Myers; and seven great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Thursday, December 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. The Barton American Legion will hold a memorial service honoring Jack at 4:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Divine Mercy Parish St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Barton on Friday, December 30th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Eric Gauchat as celebrant.

Interment will be at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Barton.
