John Osborn "Jack" Fazenbaker Jr., 89, of Westernport, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at Piney Valley, Keyser, W.Va.
Born May 18, 1929, in Westernport, he was the son of the late John Osborn and Annie (Harden) Fazenbaker. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (Alt) Fazenbaker.
Jack was a 1947 graduate of Bruce High School. He retired with 40 years of service from the United States Postal Service. Jack also worked for Burton's Lab for several years and Boal Funeral Home for 20 plus years. In his earlier years he was active with the Boy Scouts, having been Scout Master of Troop 36, Westernport for 30 years. Jack was a charter member and past president of the Westernport Heritage Society, having played a major role in bringing about the local railroad museum and the Williams Museum in Westernport. He was a long time member and secretary of I.O.O.F 91 and was the sexton for the Philos Cemetery for many years. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., and was active in the men's bible class.
He leaves behind three sons, John Fazenbaker III and wife, Alexa of Westernport, Craig Fazenbaker and wife, Jean of Keyser, Chad Fazenbaker and wife, Eunhee Son of Westernport; one daughter, Julie Shahan and fiance', Rusty Cowper of Fredericksburg, Va.; his grandchildren who affectionately called him, "Grand Jack", Canon and wife, Sara, Cole and wife, Laura, Job, Rae Michelle, and Caleb and wife, Taylor Fazenbaker, Peyton and Kennedy Shahan and Yunwoo Han. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Neff of Hot Springs, Va., and Tina Alt of Keyser; his companion, Eloise Arnold of Westernport; and special friends, Shirley and Bill Egan of Georgia and cousin and special friend, Leonard Harold Biggs of Westernport, and many nieces and nephews.
At Jack's request, he was cremated.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mary Beth Chein officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, or the Westernport Heritage Society.
