James Edward “Jim” Shaw, 84 of Barton went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.

Born in Moscow on May 17, 1930 he was the son of the late William P. and Myrtle R. (Russell) Shaw. He is also preceded in death by an infant son James E. Shaw Jr. and a brother William Shaw Jr.

Jim was a 1949 graduate of Barton High School. He was also a member of the Barton High School alumni association. Jim was a retired carman and locomotive mechanic for the B&O, Chessie and CSX railroad, where he worked for 43 years. He was former Mayor and councilman for the town of Barton for over 20 years. He was a lifelong member of The First Presbyterian Church of Barton, where he served as a trustee/elder and treasurer for 18 years. He was a life member of IOOF #94, Barton. Jim was a master craftsman who built homes and cabinetry for his family and friends. He was highly involved in his community and helped with improvements to the ball fields, playgrounds, the local high school stadium and press box. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his spouse of 61 years, Dorothy (Howell) Shaw, sons, Edward Shaw and wife Susan, Bob Shaw and wife Donita, and Bryan Shaw and wife Sherry. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Betsy Shaw, Sallie Johnson and husband Mark, Bethany Shaw, Justin Shaw, Bryan Shaw Jr. and wife Freya, and Christina Glenn and husband Josh. Mr. Shaw is survived by three great grandchildren; Katherine Johnson, Zaryd Shaw and Coen Glenn.

Friends and family will be received at Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Saturday, October 4th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, October 5th at The First Presbyterian Church of Barton at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tom Morgan officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to The First Presbyterian Church of Barton.
